I bought this in the early 1970s for $100. It came with a bookcase and matching chair and wastebasket. The bookcase had sliding glass doors, but I removed them for easier access. When I moved, I tried to sell it and only one person came to look at it. A local dealer and she said she would have a difficult time reselling it since heavy oak furniture isn't popular now and it was a C-lid (S-lids are more desirable). Her visit cost me $95. She closed the lid and it locked - and that locked all the drawers, also. I don't know where the key is and had to call a locksmith to come and open it. Since that, I inserted pegs in where the lid locks do it doesn't happen again. Anyway, she didn't buy it and I now have found a use for it in my new home. The photos were taken at the old house. It's a shame people aren't interested in this style of furniture.

I think the dealer was trying it on. I agree there's less of a market but there are still buyers out there. I looks a fabulous piece, Get the locksmith to make you some keys.

I found one of those in a clearance that jammed up when I closed the lid.
    No keys.

At the back behind the bottom right drawer was a lever, I pulled it and unlocked.

I can't see behind mine - it's flush with the wall and it's too heavy for me to move by myself, but thanks for the tip.
