This is a nice thing. It is joining the hoard. Marked as 585 gold, with an almost moon crater design - there ought to be three small gem stones, but one is missing. I can fix that.

Two other marks though. One is something like IG&W or 16&W, the other looks like a pelican spearing a sun with rays! I am perplexed. This is not like me, I can normally google and research.

    Thoughts?

Could it be a Stork Carrying a Baby Basket?

It's an odd looking stork if it is, short legged. ;) I can't work the damn thing out.

Maybe it's a shell rather than the sun?

The bird looks more like a pelican than a stork.

Pigeon is more like it; the legs are short. No clue whose it is.

The Egyptian mark is an ibis. These are all quite different from Egyptian marks.

And that's why it turned up for you in a search. Have seen this source before. Must have made their own decision about what kind of bird. More authoritative sources, with much more sense, ID it as an ibis. We've had threads where the subject was Egyptian jewellery; a quick look at one of them will show you how Egyptian marks typically look.

    A valiant effort, though.

Yup,it's certainly not an Egyptian mark and the style is all wrong, too.

It's a puzzle. It came in a vintage Danish jeweller's box, but that probably means nothing, given how boxes get swapped. The mark is well done, it's ovbious someone was proud of it and put their intitials, too. So who..............?

I haven't been able to find the pelican mark either, the usual bird mark suspects of Portugal and Czechoslovakia/Slovakia don't have a pelican. So it must be a maker's mark.
Going by the style of the ring I'd say 1960s W. Germany. Sort of sputnik meets Brutalism. With a very nice result.
Is one of the stones turned sideways? Or is that just my funny eyesight.:wacky: The missing stone was probably an emerald.

Not funny eye sight, they're very roughly cut and shaped.

I think it's craters, which is probably why I like it.

You'd think a pelican and letters would be findable! Anyhow, it's over six grammes of 14ct for twenty quid. So I'm happy. ;)
