Odd screw press

    I have a couple iron screw presses. One is the typical rectangular plate book press.

    The other I can't find anything like on the web. It has the same size screw as the book press, but it has a smaller table and plate that are football shaped. What was it's intended purpose?

    I notice now that the plate has guide cutouts at each end. The base is football shaped.

    Thank you very much. I guess it might be more valuable as a working press than as an antique. Probably not that old anyway.

    I think I'll blast some sand at it or wire brush it.
