I was happy to purchase this from an antique store this weekend. I have been down the rabbit hole trying to find out all I can. It is on Eucalyptus Bark and is of the lightning man "Namarrkon". It does have a partial certificate that I could read most of it, but I am not sure if I am seeing the full name.

Is there anyone out there that can tell me more? Namarrkon Bark Painting.jpg Namarrkon Label.jpg

I had this Australian bark landscape collage:

    From my description:
It is titled, on the back, “Sun Burnt Country”. The artist was D. Michel and the picture was made in 1973. The material used is Australian Paper Bark. This bark comes from Melaleuca trees and gets its name because it readily peels off like strips of paper.

Nice find. It looks 1960s to me. I can't help with the full name though.

A very nice landscape, but not Aboriginal and not from the Northern Territory.
The melalueca tree grows in the dense forests of SE Queensland and NE New South Wales, far from the NT.

NT Aborigines used the bark of local eucalyptus (gum) trees for their barkpaintings. They paint on the bark, not with the bark. Traditionally they used natural ochres, more recently acrylics.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

By "the full name" do you mean the part that looks like "meradje" at the bottom? To me it looks like a partial word.

Thanks everyone! I was able to reach someone who specializes in aboriginal bark art. The artist is John Namerredje Guymala.
