Nice painting - I am thinking the name is Polish or Greek but would love opinions. J. Kopminos? Sitter appears to be holding a rosary? 1970's? IMG_4796.JPEG IMG_4797.JPEG IMG_4798.JPEG

Very nice portrait, laura. It is Greek, the sitter is wearing the netted scarf headdress of men from Crete, the rosary is actually a string of worry beads called komboloi.

Just found the name of the net headdress, it is called 'sariki'. Some wear it as a band around the head, like on your painting, others wear it so that it completely covers the top of the head.

This is so interesting! I love learning about other cultures. Thank you. Now to find the artist - maybe I need some worry beads?

    Someone will find him.

(I would be more interested in finding the sitter.:shame: Which reminds me, my mother always used to say that Cretan men become better looking as they get older. ;))

Name looks like it could be Kormpos.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The first initial wouldn't be a J, as that letter doesn't exist in the Greek alphabet. And it does appear to be Greek, although could be something else.
