Old brass candlestick with interesting marks

    Sadly only one, but does anyone know what the markings mean in the base, and approx age

    All I can make out is a star

    Charlie, is there any chance the writing says CARLISLE? It's quite blurry, and I really can't tell.

    I don't think the writing is English, hard to make out, but could the star symbol mean star of David ?

    The star symbol with a dot in the middle looks like the Moroccan pentagram often seen on coins from Morocco.

    I couldn't even SEE the star until I saw Davey's image!!!!! I kept seeing two X's!! Here it is Inversed, but it doesn't clarify the writing I don't think....there's more on the bottom and right corners.....

    That faceted part looks a bit like one of my Middle Eastern kohl bottles:

    Something like it on the 14th century key to the Ka'aba, Mecca.

    Nice, looks like the same maker.
    I wouldn't be too sure either, I've never seen that dot inside the star on Jewish items. As Davey pointed out, it does occur in North Africa. I've seen it on Islamic items as well.
