I found this at my thrift store Fri, it appears old & banged up (i would haved passed, but for $12.99 it was unusual enough (google image search turned up no matches) - can anyone tell if it's actually old or was it made to look distressed?
(Theres a dent in 1 side (photo 7), that's wood too

Could it be from/for a temple?

Any thoughts or help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Very interesting thing. Does look to have real/true age (well that’s just what I think) Is it heavy and solid? Is the dented part not something like paper mache? How much does the whole thing weigh? Maybe something like paper mache mould figure mounted on a wooden base? The leg where the foot is missing is that solid wood?

It looks like someone saw her inside a chunk of tree trunk and carved her. Then she's got gesso and paint over top.

God I would love that for my Zen garden I am planning. I think you got a steal!

It's all wood even the weird dent (from what I can feel)

Not very old imo, and yes to banged up in two ways (pregnant). Maybe a Mother Earth figure?
Not from a temple. Maybe from a private garden sanctuary for Mother Earth?

Interesting,so just in poor overall condition,I was really thinking this could be old.

The style isn't that old to me either. Maybe around about 70s? It looks like she might have been in someone's garden (especially the mold looking areas where water would collect) which would account for having more damage.

Still a really cool piece for a garden.

Yes, that's it. The style is fairly recent.

I reckon that “poor” condition will be a selling point, she’s got a look.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

She may have been kept outdoors for a while, and that's part of what destroyed the paint. Especially if recent!
