Featured old cased photograph miniature portait type

    hey everyone

    can anyone let me know what kind of photograph this is, age etc

    really sweet little thing, i think the portrait is on glass

    i think a bit of painted detail as well

    measures 2 3/4 inches by 2 1/2 inches

    paid £10 cause i loved the case,

    any thoughts appreciated

    thanks for the info blooey and fig, must be about 1850- 60 then i guess

    hopefully being an ambrotype is a good thing then

    think it was worth what i paid for the case

    Edmund Eccles. Born 1827. A Mason. The earliest reference I can find to him is 1869 but, of course, he would have been professionally active before then. Lived and worked at same address 15, Broad Street. As your case has different address, suspect it's an earlier work. Ah, here you go... Old advert for his business in which he states "Established 1855." That's your earliest date.

    Where is your other guy? They look like they could be related. He DEFINITELY doesn't have the "lips".:cool:

    i continue to try and find oscar wilde lookalikes, but the lips are never big enough for you :)

    It is really the whole package, but when you look at their expressions on their faces, especially their mouths, they don't as "lippy" (I don't want to place a label on him)or whatever it is about that man.
    Today's example looks a bit frightened or pained, or something.

    nah not mine, wish it was though !

    i think the touch of colour on mine is a good thing as well

    certain attributes to this type of thing (as well as most other things) seems to affect the pricing
