    Dear all,

My name is Sjoerd from The Netherlands.
I just picked up this chest/trunk from a pawn shop and was wondering what the history (if any) behind this item is. I don´t have any information on this item so far.
So if anyone thinks they recognize something or has tips on how to find out more, please let me know.
It could be nothing special at all but I´d still like to know in that case.
I look forward to reading some reactions to this thread.

    Kind regards,

    Sjoerd

    Welkom bij het forum, Sjoerd.
These trunks were often used as luggage for sea travel, but others will be along to tell you more.

Steamer trunk. I think pre-WWII and possibly as early as the 20s.

    Wow...Hello! Warm welcome.
Sounds very interesting. Would be amazing if this was pre-WWII.
Lovely how many people responded in such a short amount of time.
I´m wondering how I can find out even more about this chest.
Since I can´t go outside as much with corona, and the only store I could ask for information about this has closed since. Online information is all I can go on.
Therefore thank you all for responding :)

I did some more reseach! It would make a lot of sense if this is actually a steamer trunk. The design of the trunk seems to match the description perfectly. The trunk has a flat top, is wooden and exactly 14 inches high. The white letters could have been markings to identify the trunk during travel from America to Europe. I live in a city called The Hague in The Netherlands which is the biggest city next to sea in Holland. I found this in a little store next to our harbour. This all seems to point to the trunk coming from America between 1860 and 1920. I should be able to find more information about the trunk if I investigate the lock. It should by law have the date of when the lock was made. I´m not going to mess with it myself however.

Please let me know if this sounds right or if there are flaws in my knowledge.
Seems like I got the luggage carrier from some American traveller.

Thank you Brad for the tip!
