Don't really know what to think of this piece. I believe it to be an old Chinese sculpture somebody decided that would look good as a lamp. Not sure how common that practice is. Thinking of just removing the old lamp portion and putting it back the way it should be. Any opinions on that?
The little round piece (that holds the shade on), really doesn't match, it's greener. I think they're some kind of jade. The sculpture is hard and very heavy. Not too sure my grandmother liked it or not. I remember it in her attic for many years. Any guess on age? There are flowers on the standing lady's robe in the back and other places, that are hard to see, if that means anything. As always, thank you for your comments.

Kind if difficult to answer. I can't scratch it with my fingernail, but I think if I took a sharp knife I could mark it.

Not jade then, and probably always a lamp.

I believe you. But what is it made of then, is what I'm wondering? I have jade pieces and sandstone as well and I can tell you it isn't the latter. Also the little round piece that holds the shade on, is real jade. It doesn't match the sculpture as you can see, it just came with it.

Thank you for that. Like I said I always kind of wondered about it. Also, now I think I know why she kept it in the attic.

She's a perfectly nice lamp. She and the finial probably didn't start life together, but who knows; people used to do WEIRD stuff in the 50s.

I am sorry to say that but I think this is nothing related with old. It should be a new replica in the near 10 years. Also the material made of it is man-made stone also called stone powder mix, which uses unsaturated polyester resin as compond and mixed with glass powder, marble powder, silica sand, calcite powder, dolomite powder and some flame retardants and color powder.
If the base of the "Guanyin" can be taken off, you can see man-made scratches on its bottom.
Remember never buy stone sculptures which bottom is sticked with a base. They are trying to hide and fool consumers.

There's another professional way to test it.
If you wrap it thoroughly with plastic food wrap multiple times and put it into a closet for 1 week, you will see there's small condensation dews come out of the sculpture.
