Old Clay Cooker - Chinese?

This is an old clay cooker with an etched decoration like a chicken's foot beneath the steam hole. I don't know anything about it other than when I bought it at a tag sale, the person said it was very old. Does anyone have any idea about it? It has been used directly on/in a fire pit so it's burnt. Thanks.

Sorry! it's about 10.5" wide and 6.5" high.

 

Just giving this a bump in case anyone has thoughts on this clay cooker. Otherwise, it goes to the dump.

 

Looks like a Chinese or Japanese covered rice bowl.
Might want to do a little more investigating.

 

Well, it's very large and meant to be used over a flame. Maybe a Japanese donabe or Chinese sand pot. At least give it to a thrift rather than the dump.

 

Our transfer station (i.e. dump) has a building to put things you don't want/need any more and another person can take it home. It's a great way to keep usable things out of the trash stream. I'll take it there.

 

That sounds good. We barely have curbside recycling here, just in the past year, and we have to pay for it.
