I found this Sat at a yard sale - they wanted $40 but I bought it for $20 - partially because it doesn't have any markings, it could be a knock off from China (the owner said she thought it had had a sticker but couldn't remember).
Is there any way to tell where it's from?
Is it "Deco" (is it deco or art nouveau with the sharp corners and angles - I'm thinking deco because it kinda looks like the hotels in Miami Beach's art deco district) period or a newer piece meant to look deco?
Finally, how do you tell the difference between porcelain or other lesser pottery? I am afraid this may be a lesser one (like chalk ware?) because the details in the face are so ... not sharp or detailed.
Thanks all, as always I appreciate your help!

    It does.
Did she lose her head at one time (we all do at times;)), or is that just a stain?

    No repair - maybe light/flash?

Porcelain is translucent, so hold it up to a light. Chalkware will flake off if you scratch the bottom. It's painted instead of glazed and really easy to damage. It's sometimes called plaster, as in plaster of Paris. I'm not sure it's classified as pottery?
