I found this jewelry box today. The inside is wood. It appears to be homemade. Any idea of the age? 20171012_173851.jpg 20171012_173907.jpg

You don't mention dimensions, but it looks like a cigarette box to me.............

I don't have a ruler, but I used a spiral-ring notebook to approximate its dimensions. Approximately 8x5 inches. The inside appears to be cherry wood or mahogany.

Looks Latin American. Peru, perhaps. No marks at all?

Not that I can find. There's some dark tarnishing on the inner lid. I don't have a magnetic available, so I'm not sure if it's silver or another metal. No verdigris or rust.

Here's an example of a silver Peruvian cofre. Finer quality than yours but similar (to my eye.) Design is referred to as "colonial."

Thanks! Mine's in poor shape and a bit dented in places. The only reason I bought it was because it looked old and the tarnish made me hopeful it might be silver, even though there were no hallmarks. I'll research Peruvian cigar boxes.

Does it have a red velvet lining or is that just the color of the wood?

That's just the color of wood. Now, I realize it's probably a humidor.
