I picked this up for a pound the other day

There looks a bit of age from the back of it

Any ideas ?

Can't find any info on John Holmes, do you think it's an amateur piece ?, thanks

Yeah I tried all those but none of them seemed to ring true

The Charles John Holmes is similar in style, right age period

Is there a chance he would sign john holmes ?

I don't think Charles John Holmes, 1868–1936, would have painted such short skirts in his lifetime. The figure on the left is wearing what looks like flared jeans and a T-shirt.

Hard to tell, it does have quality and a definite style. It is certainly worth more than a pound.

Stylistically, I'd say it may be an amateur painter circa 1970s (based on clothing as Any Jewelry said). I do like it.

John Holmes was the name of a famous (infamous?) porn star. You sure do get some interesting hits when you google his name! He allegedly had a larger-than-lifesize appendage, if you get my drift.

 

He was also one of the most obnoxious persons I have ever met....he enjoyed a brief (fortuitously, VERY Brief) popularity in NYC "Pop Society" in the 1970s..................and his IQ and range of conversational topics were about the same size as his, um, - ah, yes - appendage................
