    Such an adult face. Bet he looked the same at 27 as he did at 7.

    It looks like it's been heavily overpainted. If you can afford it, you really should shop around and find a reputable restorer. You might have a real treasure there. The eyes are wonderful.

    Aaargh, I think I spoke too soon and that’s the wrong guy. On the upside, I think I found the right one, and he was a Union Army soldier.

    1836 so 1843 puts him at 7 years old
    Looks like it might be the right person

    The second Charles McAuley I found was enlisted in the 3rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Cavalry, and instead of living in NY, lived in Scranton PA. There’s also a Charles McAuley who joined the Navy. IMG_4697.png IMG_4693.png
