    Hello everyone!

I just got this pin and I cannot read the cartouches.
Can anyone say what it was meant to be used for and/or maker?

    Thanks!

Hi, Makanudo! Are you unable to get close up focused pictures of the "cartouches?" (are they impressed on the sheath near the sharp end?) The 2 pictures of the top end of the pin seem to be some kind of inscription and not a maker's or assay mark.

    Hello Bakersgma!

There are two sets of hexagogal cartouches. First on the part just below the pin and other just near the end of the sheath.
I wasnt able to make focused photo of them. I was barely able to make out with magnifying glas s that one is some animal and other seems to read "y c m". It is "u s m" in cyrillic.

Sorry to say that none of what you can see in those mean anything to me in the context of silver marks. If I run across anything I will let you know.

@kyratango Any clues in those listings for country of origin?

French, I think - boars head. And is that A &W?

I'd agree on toothpick, although one that is worn as a pin.

Not the shape of the boar’s head, if you turn the pic it seems there is a 2- a head?- a letter?
French makers marks on small objects or jewelry are in lozenge shape:)
Too big and stiff for a toothpick IMO, even if it would be more convenient than a knife end tip:joyful: (I once saw a stickpin with diamonds described as « luxury toothpick »)
    I’m absolutely sure it is a pin/brooch:)

Kyra, I've seen Georgian English picks that size, fwiw. And ear spoons.

Under loupe, figure looks like winged lion..
Needle part is too rugged and thick for a toothpick I think
