This piece came in the box with the 2 piggy banks I have posted in another thread. I don't know if this is a school project by a child or a piece of folk art. So hopefully someone here can possibly give me some clues.

It is 2 1/4" to the tips of the ear & 2 1/2" long.

Looks like a whistle, have you tried blowing through it?

Wow, I would have never guessed that in a million years!!! :jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop:
I thought the hole was caused during firing. :shame:
Just goes to show how much I do not know about all of this stuff. ;)

As far as my putting this thing in my mouth, that will also not happen in a million years!!! :yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck: I have no idea where it has been & it ain't never going to happen. LOL

Thank you so much for the information & the link!!!:kiss::kiss:

But is there a second hole somewhere at least?

If you look at the last photo you can see the there is one on top & another at the back. There is only 1/4" in between the 2 holes so you would have to have very thin lips. ;)

Bercrystal (Peggy), you could place a long drinking straw in your mouth, take air into your lungs (inhale), hold your breath as you place the straw against the "critter's" appropriate "whistle hole" and blow without inhaling at the start or finish of the "blowing into the hole."

    Bless Patty, where there's a will there's a way. ;) :D

yourturn - Your idea worked!! :) I got a couple of high shrill whistles. :joyful::joyful:

SIS - Oh the good ole days!!! ;) LOL He has multiple chips on his ears & tail, so I doubt they would be interested. I'll just list him on ebay & see what happens. I really do not have that much invested in the 3 pieces so it is not going to be hard to make money on them. :D:D

Try Crocker. This could be a very good piece if it is early. The damage is minor if it's as rare as it might be.

Goody gumdrop and I hope you keep us posted on the outcome of the listing. I have my fingers crossed for a high outcome. ;)

Posted before I saw the suggestion by Skeezix (which sounds like a great idea). ;)

You really think they would be interested in it even with the chips?

Did you look at the chips on the one in the link? Now I know prices then may not be the same now but hey....I'd try.

I have decided to at least contact them to see what they have to say. I checked out their website this evening & they said they welcome all contacts. I will keep y'all posted on what happens.

    Good luck!
Can't wait to hear what they say.
If it's old, which it appears to be it is quite rare.
In some cases expected damage is a mark of authenticity. Patina in a matter of speaking. There are many cases where the shear perfection of a piece should raise concerns of authenticity. It's amazing your piece survives in the remarkable state of preservation when you consider what it is.
