    Hi all,

I am currently eyeing on this little frog but it has a rather disturbing repair mark on it. Does anyone know what this is and if it would be possible to enhance the look, I.e. polishing it off? Thanks!

    PS: these are seller’s images

Looks like epoxy or some kind of filler. Looks like a nail mark in the side. Not sure if that has been done after it has 'set' or during the setting process to test the hardness. If it is epoxy it can be softened with hot water, but it is still quite tough in this state and might cause more damage paring it off if you are not careful. What lies underneath could be a Pandora's box too.

Is the asking price a lot? Id only be tempted if it was next to nothing.

Thank you for the suggestion, yes won’t know if there’s a huge crack underneath, but I hope I could make that thing thinner at least. The price is roughly 30 GBP, while one with better condition with no serious damage costs five times more:( and I have no experience with old porcelain so don’t want to risk too much. With that ugly mark I can at least tell it’s authentic :D

Very cute item. Btw, it looks like a toad to me, with those bumps on its back. The lucky three-legged toad?

It doesn't look like there was a break underneath the 'repairs', but you never know.

    Yes it’s a three-legged toad:joyful:

I don’t see a crack across either. But even if there’s a crack, it would still look better than that repair job :hungover:

Maybe @kyratango can help. She's got superhero skills when it comes to repair work :)

But I have to say it’s not that bad with the mark, right? IMG_0792.jpeg IMG_0802.jpeg

I"m weird; I like pieces with repairs like that. Repairs mean somebody cared.

I actually love the idea and given the stuff is animal-shaped I tend to be more compassionate.

However, I just hope that someone could give it a bit more care when repairing… not getting that glue or whatsoever all over the fine surface :hilarious:

I have no idea what they used either; I just hope it comes off.

I like staples but I'm a bit averse to bubble gum repairs.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

If you stick your finger INSIDE, can you run your finger along what "might" be a crack line on both sides to see if you "feel" anything??.........AFTER you receive it, of course!!!!!!!!!!!

It's hard to imagine it's hot glue but back, oh probably in the '70s, my dad had a hot glue gun. I seem to recall things he repaired had the same look. The glue was cloudy and yellowish.

Still, hard to imagine that's what it is.

It looks like some sort of putty in matte tone and way it's lumped and not spread too well. What a puzzle. A lot of glues weaken with alcohol, acetone or goo gone (I think it's a type of turpentine). But they may cause an issue with the porcelain itself so more research and possibly testing would be in order.

    I think he's quiet cute regardless. :D

Can’t tell how old that repair is, but hot glue is surely a possibility!

All glue shall weaken to sand paper, too:D but yes I will first remove a bit to see what’s going on underneath :p

What do people think of this one? It has a hole in the butt but otherwise crispy and clean? Would it be easier to repair this one with filler?
