Hello! I purchased this cigar cutter which is probably made of white bronze or pewter and is heavily silver plated! the cutter itself has a problem - the spring does not return it, it must be returned manually, but otherwise everything is fine! no markings on it anywhere, I see various dates on the internet from Art Deco to early 1950's! Could you share your opinion on the dating and maker of this item? Greetings!

“GERMAN DUCK FORM CIGAR CUTTER: Antique German silver or nickel plated figural duck head cigar cutter. There is a hallmark marking on the hinged cutter portion. The hallmark symbol has the letters C and S, & Germany. Approx. 5.75" l x 1.5" w x 1" d.”

Sold for $100 in June 2023 on liveauctioneers.

    Edited to add photo.

Hello! My piece has absolutely no markings on the hinged part, I have looked at it all under a microscope! This post doesn't answer my question about dating and production period! (by the way, I also find those sold for $700) Greetings!

I tried to give you a possible manufacturer and country so you could search further. You asked for the maker.

Sorry I couldn’t be of help. Good luck with you search!

A couple of drips of oil might lubricate the spring and make it work properly.

Silicon spray also helps, and is less messy.
Cute cigar cutter. The decoration has some Art Nouveau influence, which doesn't necessarily mean it dates from the AN period.

Are you sure there aren't marks here?

    Very indistinct.

I'm sure it's just dark spots on the silver! Basically, in one of the described ones that you mentioned, there are stamped letters on the cutting mechanism, but here there is nothing, really nothing! just missing any markings! Like I said, I've looked at her under an electron microscope!
