Hi, can someone tell me how to remove safely this old scotch tape from a banknote?
    Thanks

I might try putting it in a good ziplock bag and squeezing all the air out.
Then feeeze it and, still in the bag, see if the tape will shatter on a flat surface. Try just pushing with fingers first then pounding with your fist.

I was looking to get most or even all off without using any fluids.
I suspect there will be stains left from the adhesive.
Not knowing the stability of the ink I didn’t want to suggest lighter fluid but if the bill is hung vertically with the tape at the bottom this would be worth a shot if done with great care.

Thanks Kingo & Verybrad, let's try! This is a very scarce Panamá 1941one balboa bill.

It looks old enough for the tape to just fall off.
American printed, good quality ink and paper, the tape will come off easily enough but I have never found anything effective on the resulting stain.

It is a shame as it is a scarce note in quite decent condition.

I agree with AF, the stain will remain.

I had quite a lot of scarce banknotes that had been taped into picture frames, I removed them but the staining was impossible to remove.

There are methods of washing and bleaching that some unscrupulous dealers use but these eventually speed up the papers deterioration.

Sucks about the tape, but in great condition otherwise. Still it's a fantastic bill to have. :)

    US?
Hmmm..... That may not be cashable but still collectible and possibly worth more than face value. :)

You'll probably have to buy whatever gold you can with whatever you can sell it for. :)

Remember by the year 2000, a friend of mine offer me panamenian gold coins at face value :( 500, 100, 75 , many of them, i just take 3 coins. He said that many americans bring those coin to change it at the bank, he changed all. Well, he is a rich person, he can afford it, he made 3 full complete collection of gold coin. (IF you can, do it)

I use a hair dryer on low heat. Even old tape will loosen when heated. It may take a few minutes before it will lift off.
