maybe not that old but in poor shape. The textured paper is interesting.
    Page is 10" x 14"
    Any thoughts.

Not an amateur amateur. Someone who clearly has studied art.

This was likely Marian (Marion?) Butterfield, an American watercolorist (NOT the German artist) who retired to Turkey, around Izmir, sometime in the late 1980s/early '90s. I believe she was from Northern Michigan, originally. She was a long-time friend of my friends Tom and Barbara Drach who followed her lead and retired to Seferihisar (Sigacik), Turkey, in the 1990s. Tom & Barbara used to read her letters to me, about the little villa she bought overlooking the Aegean. I was wondering whatever became of her, and if she's still alive. I am delighted to have found this example if her work.

She had some of her watercolors made into note cards... my friends wrote to me on them. This is very much her style.

Where did you come across this, Mikey, in the US or in Turkey...(or somewhere else?) .

Wow thanks for the most likely identification. Purchased at a yard sale in Sacramento CA.

    Hi
Not sure if you got my last message about your painting Mariana is correct that painting was done by my great aunt Marian Butterfield she was born in Chicago and moved to Turkey many years ago, she dies in 2000. I have some post cards with her signature on them but no original paintings. If you are not too attached to the painting it would be wonderful to have it back in our family. I live in the Bay Area and would be happy to compensate you for it please let me know either way. 22C20A71-9DED-402D-AA32-3F6212FF734C.jpeg

I would have jumped at the chance to return it to a family member. I didn't get any other message from you before.
After i posted this back in November I sold it.
    I am sorry.

    Hi Mikey,
Thank you for getting back to me I really appreciate it. I only came across your post doing a google search of Marian for a genealogy project I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. Wishing you the best in our current covid life. Laura

    Hi Mariana,
I was doing a genealogy search of my great aunt Marian Butterfield and came across this website hit. I think it’s amazing that you knew of my aunt Marian and her post card. Marian passed away in 2000. I reached out to Mikey to see if I could buy the painting because I too only have post cards and I would have loved to have one of her painting back in the family but unfortunately he had sold it already. Thank you so much for your sharp mind in identifying Marian’s work. Respectfully Laura

Laura, why don't you contact The Izmir Turkish-American Association? Just the type of organization expats join and very possible some of their members have works by your aunt. They might even have a newsletter in which you can advertise in for her works.

If you are referring the painting of my grandmother I am sure it has not been posted because my mother still has it.
