    Hi there

Could anyone help me identify the maker of this clock? The only stamp I see is on the base and seems to read "17".

    Thank you

I'm assuming this is a picture of the back.
The winding mechanism is on the back? I've not seen that before. Makes me wonder if it is American made.

    Has af been around lately?

Hi, yeah that's the back, attaching some more photos. I've been able to find similar but not this clock. Thank you!

You're welcome. I'm sure someone will come along soon who will know something about your clock. I am not an expert, but I think the F on the back means Fast and the S means Slow. I think French clocks have the letter R (Retard) and A (Advance) on them. Maybe this is American then? Can't wait to hear what the clock experts say.

    Is it a wind up?

    No - Not at all.
I was on late last night and was thinking that it was wound with a key. After looking at your added picture this morning, I was just verifying that I was wrong.

Thinking your clock might be 1920s/30s made to look like an earlier type mantel clock.

Wonder if @verybrad has any background with clocks.

I'm not the Clock Guy, but I'm thinking Cluttered is right as to time period. I'm also thinking American-made. The case design is very conservative...at first I thought ca. 1900, but the wind-up mechanism is definitely later.

Seems like AF's appearances are increasingly sporadic.

Agree, I wasn't seeing clearly late last night. The picture was small and I thought the back was a key wind, not the normal wind up mechanism. That's why I said maybe not American.
I'm changing my mind this morning.

Thank you - I'm guessing American made is a bad thing for old clocks?

    Not really.

    Should add:
Like brown furniture, clock prices are way down right now.

If you are going to list this, wipe it down with a little lemon oil, orange oil or Howard's Restor a Finish.

Not really clock guy. Styling suggest turn of the century. Not sure if that wind type is consistent with that date or not. Certainly older looking than most attached-key wind clocks we see.

I think I saw that clock in one of my books and I recall a company in Connecticut. I can look it up if you have not found maker yet,
