Older looking hand embroidered top

    It is a huipil, a traditional Mexican or Central American dress. @April07 will know the region it was made in.

    Hi, this huipil is not Mexican. For the type of the collar & the color, I am thinking of Guatemala.

    Found the video, a similar one is labelled as Guatemala, 1920s-1930s (though, of course, the model might be reproduced until now).
    The collar is a representation of a feathered snake as a solar symbol.

    I'll see if I can find my Guatemalan costume book, that was written in the 1990s, so it also has later huipils.

    I checked my Guatemalan costume book, it is just about the Highlands, the region adjoining Chiapas. The huipils there are very elaborately decorated, so maybe it is from a different part of Guatemala. Sorry I couldn't help any further.

    Cofradias are big in Guatemala. You can recognize the members of the different cofradias by the designs on their clothing.
