An impossible search term. Tests as gold. The ruby is not real.

The only marking. Anyone ever run across a maker's stamp like this?

Not a clue. What size is the ring? An R in the British system is close to a 9 in ours. If it's an 8.75 that gives you the origin of the ring or at least tells you it was made for the British market.

Just throwing this out there...when I see WWW, I think of my father in law. His initials are WWW. Could this be initials, as opposed to makers mark?

Not British without a proper hallmark.
Chuck it in the gold scrap bag

I checked one more place and it matches the style of White, Wile & Warner of Buffalo. The gold is an unusual color. I think it is because they used silver instead of copper in the mix. www 004.JPG
Checking again, it is a real ruby, the tester tip was dirty.

Score! Nice ring, btw. It would sell handily around here; bezel set vintage rings can do nicely. How big is that rock?

About half a carat then. That may have been someone's engagement ring.
