This is an 1840s mahogany sewing box for Ms. G. I believe that the drawer pulls are ivory. It even had some old thimbles in the drawers. Cool mirror in the lid, which seemingly weighs a ton! Merry Christmas to all!!

Well that is lovely as always. Some of the thimbles could be worth good money if they are silver... enjoy

Close enough for rock and roll, @kyratango

That top is actually a tray that lifts out! Underneath are 3 more drawers. In one of the drawers was a Bakelite cylindrical sewing kit from the Emery, Bird Thayer department store in Kansas City, now long gone. The lettering looks to be from the mid 20th Century. And....it looks like there are several silver thimbles. So time to investigate further....:)
Oh, and BTW that glove looks to be Victorian, and it's TINY. My guess is that it's some kind of sample.
It appears that this sewing box lived in Kansas City for well over a century, or at least back to the mid-20th. Now I need to find out how it got HERE.
    This will be fun!

I just wonder if there is a way of removing the mirror? sometimes it's a button inside the lid behind the top lip or sometimes it's a push at the top of the mirror that releases the catch. I'm not saying it defiantly has a secret letter compartment but it might have, worth a look. I normally know something has a secret compartment but I did once have a piece for some considerable time before I noticed one of the mouldings was loose, behind it was a drawer with stamps and a nice fountain pen, the pen was worth as much as I paid for the piece.

The mirror may well swing out as a way to make using the mirror easier. If you're lucky the lady who owned it hid a love letter or two there.

It could also be a little girl's glove. Maybe it needed to be repaired & it never got reunited with its mate.

It is a stunning box & I know it will have a special place in your house.
