Opinions about this Swagger stick?

Hi all. Got this yesterday. Has a nice vintage feel but I have no idea as to age (but not antique,I think) It’s very simplistic in design with the silver bands. Marked Lt. Noel Howard-Tripp and the no. 151659 (military personnel or enlistment number?) So Lt. fairly low rank. Name sounds American to me. It is 58cm in length. Any comments,ideas as to possible age? Thanks and keep well

Noel isn't an American sounding first name.
Now if it were Howard Vandertripp III, that would sound American. (Dutch-American, admittedly.)

 

I don't think the above individual is he because according to his marriage license, his occupation was clerk. Unlikely for someone who held the rank of lieutenant. But the Howard-Tripps are associated with the British colonies -- both New Zealand and South Africa.

Was thinking more the surname. I seem to recall ‘Tripp’ from some Americans movies..

I think Trip(p?) is an American first name.

 

Probably that then.. just the first thing that came to mind

 

'Trip' is a fairly common nickname here for those who are given the dubious distinction of being a 'III'...

Is it safe to assume people nicknamed Trip won't be giving their sons same name, and the honour of being the fourth? Quad?

 

An old friend's father, who was Panamanian, wanted to name her brothers as the boys in his family were named, Jorge Uno, Jorge Dos, Jorge Tres, etc., and they were called by their number (her Dad was 'Cinco'), her Castilian mother vetoed that idea, though the oldest was Jorge, Jr... Don't believe it was a tradition outside of their family - boxer George Foreman did the same with his sons...
