Origin and purpose of itty bitty tile top iron table?

Hello everyone. I wasn’t sure if a tile top iron table goes under furniture, metalware or pottery…

I’m in So Cal and got this rather low (6” high) six-tile iron table a few years ago. I haven’t seen anything like it in this size. Any thoughts as to its use? Center of a dining room table? Trivet for a buffer/sideboard? My educated guess is that it from the 1920s-30s.

It has six very vibrant orange tiles on top. I collect pre-war California pottery, and the orange glaze doesn’t look like anything I’ve seen before. One of the local antique dealers thought it looks like a custom piece created with Catalina tile, but of course thinking every old tile piece is Catalina is a little like thinking every stained glass lamp is Tiffany…of course, it would be cool if it were. The piece is totally unmarked. Each tile is roughly 4” x 4”. It has heft to it. Despite its age it’s in excellent condition.

The grout also has a reddish-orange color to it.

Any thoughts?

Very late 60s "Spanish Colonial", with those orange tiles and wrought iron.

 

Thanks. I went back and found the paperwork from the antiques dealer who sold it to me. It was represented to have been made in the 1920s.

 

No older than 1960s with those very orange tiles, imo.

 

Late 1960s into the 1970s would fit with the surge in popularity of house plants.

I’d agree on sixties into seventies. I’ve seen these here as sort of table top trivets, but a plant stand would work.
