Little blue stone box, about 2 inches wide and 1 1/4 inches tall, cute little bracket feet. Has a crack on the front which probably kills any value it might have had, but I am curious about its age and origin, and do you think the stone is sodalite? Thank you for any thoughts.

Sure looks like Sodalite to me. Though I can't help you with your questions, I think your box is so pretty!

I was going to say it looks like dyed something, but in many pix it looks more like trompe l'oeil painting.

i don't think the crack hurts it that much..........be nice if it was silver though....

Some of these came out of Italy, some India.

Thank you all for your thoughts. It's definitely stone. The blue does seem bright enough to suggest that it is dyed. I didn't even see the crack until I took photos, but I do think it would be tough to sell with the crack.
    I like the little feet.

Looks like the crack and the damage to the corner at the left of the crack was "repaired" with JB Weld.
