Was curious if anyone could fill us in on the origin & use of this wooden box. It is hand decorated, has brass feet. At one time had a lock on it. The inside had some sort of cushioning & fabric lining. Any info is helpful.

    Dimensions:
    12" x 8.5" x 6" tall

    Thank you!

sounds about right for a bible box, but with a lock? never owned one with a lock..........you'd think grandpapa would WANT you to get it out whist he was out plowing the back forty................

Somebody did an awful lot of work on that. I don't think it's American. Scandinavian maybe? I agree with the possibility that it's a Bible box. The family kept birth and marriage records etc in the Bible, so it would be important beyond being The Book.
