I stopped into the Habitat store today and they had gotten in about 30-40 pictures, so I went through them and pulled out a few that were original stuff and worth buying. One of the pieces, which I got for $1.00, is an original advertising artwork. The artwork is on a piece of Strathmore paper, it is blind stamped. When I took it apart I found some info written on the back. I was hoping that people could help me sort out the last name and figure out if there was a commercial studio at this address. Are these two separate clippings mounted on board? If so, I'd say you are in with a chance. The frame looks like a document frame to be purchased at any office supply store, so... maybe not a framer's note. But it could be student work.

Name looks to me like Marie Tarjieu?

Both mounted on the same piece of paper. The top one is a watercolor on a separate piece of paper glued to the substrate. The lower illustration is directly painted on the substrate.

Do you think those were a class project? Jahn's was a chain of ice cream parlors and can't find a G.I. Fischer piano maker/retailer.

    Think it's "Marie Tarjan."

That is a possibility, I also didn’t have any luck with the businesses.

Compare to this Ludwig Hohlwein poster:

There is an oral history by their son Armen Charles Tarjan at Rutgers. He talks about his mom being musical and artistic, she liked to paint.

A lot of grand piano adverts look very similar.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I found and read part of it. So interesting! She was also a skilled pastry chef, according to the interview. And Armen Charles Tarjan was apparently well known in his academic life. Found quite a bit about him online.
