    IMG_4034.jpeg IMG_4039.jpeg IMG_4030.jpeg IMG_4032.jpeg IMG_4048.jpeg IMG_4033.jpeg Hi all,I was thinking this was a good painting (and I like) The signature is a long one (bottom left corner) Some writing on the back. I was thinking it could be an African name and surname? But probably not (still trying combinations) What do you think? Iam unsure about possibly dating the frame but was thinking 40’s -50’s (frame is fairly heavy and thick in construction) Frame size about 50cm x 44cm. Thanks for any comments

    Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

    THAT is a real toughie to try and edit!!!! Scaled it down a bit then de-saturated & contrasted..........end result....sorry, I don't think it helped much, or at all!!

    @Roaring20s and @Aquitaine
    Thank you very much. I appreciate the effort. This one is a bit of nightmare. I have had some success submitting photos of some works to a few of our art and general auction houses for identification. Maybe I will try that.
    What do you think of the painting itself? Thanks again

    Very nice impression, Boland, I like it.
    Good idea. This is one of those artists who would rather not disclose their identity.:playful:

    Hi Boland.You really are trying to test us all with this one--,but I beleive I may have found your artist.I beleive it is MIETE ZANGRANDO.I could not find a biography for her ,only that on a still life with flowers painting sold on Dorotheum,it's gives her nationality as Italian,and also gives her signature which I am confident is a match to yours.Now before it's said that the only examples of her work are all still lifes!!!!!! we move on to Giovanni Zangrando,[1867-1941]Italian artist working in Trieste.In his biography it reads "on the outbreak of the First World War he had to flee Trieste,and took refuge with his wife the model Miete Schmidt in Tuscany,returning to Trieste after the war.-Giovanni was principally a portrait artist,but also painted landscapes ,especially it is said when on holiday. Is it not very plausible that his wife may have painted your painting ,while on one of these holidays.Hopefully someone may find more evidence to back up my theory.

    I'm finding a number examples of her work with a Google Images search. And here is her signature.

    The signature on the still life for sale on Dorotheum has the Z crossed .Her husband Giovanni crossed the Z as well,while not unique would not be the norm IMO

    I wonder if that's not a local Adriatic scene.

    Hi Antiquefab,well
    Iam amazed that you figured this out. It’s just great to know (was already thinking I would very probably never know) I also now had alook and checked the signatures. Not sure what the rules are for giving a ‘best answer’ but I feel you deserve it. Many thanks and well done! :)
