I bought these at a real barn sale. In an old barn. lol
I bought these for $25 for the pair. They are 29" long total.
Very heavy about 11 lbs each. Solid brass framing and bottom piece?
These lamps are electrified so maybe done later? the wiring looks 1960's The thick beveled glass is on two sides so these lamps are a left and right.
I would like to know if they are original carriage lamps that have been electrified or made this way and a copy?

Looks 50's-60's... large porch lights, better then most with beveled glass and look to be brass construction ?

Looks like the type that a homeowner might have mounted on either side of their garage door in my 1950s/60s neighborhood.

Yes it is mostly brass. The electrical looks to me that it has been added or at least a poor repair. The lower back vent holes where the cord comes out has been messed with. Hard to see but in the last pic.

Can you pull up the larger round frame of the light socket?

No. It is connected to the lower tube. Just a hole drilled for the wire.

The fact that you have a right and left pair, makes me think these are legit. Can't see them doing this if meant to be house-mounted.

I go with "verybrad". I think that it's way too much for a porch lamp. They remind me of the lamps that used to be mounted on the old horse drawn hearses. They would have had spring loaded candles in the bottom tubes. As the candle burned and the wax melted it would be pushed up in the tubes. I have one very similar lamp and I wish I had the other. For $25, it was a steal. I am green!

Agree. Nice copper oxidation around the lanterns. Their weight, left/right orientation, and elaboration make me also think they're the real thing ca. 1890-1910.

Wow that is awesome, I appreciate all of you! They must have been beautiful 100 years ago. Now to figure out what to do with them. I don't think restoration, just clean up and sell. Shipping probably not an option lol.

Now it’s taken apart, does anyone think it was fueled originally?

Oh, that's just Chairish. Everything is ridiculously over-priced. But very useful if you are preparing insurance claims of your own. :angelic::angelic::angelic:

The ones in in my neighborhood were smaller with an eagle on top. This was during the late 50s and early 60s during the “Early American” decorating rage. I got married in ‘64 and had a house full of Ethan Allen dark pine, cherry and maple faux American Antiques…Windsor chairs, maple dough box end tables, Pennsylvanian Amish blank chest coffee table. The MCM Atomic Age was over…Goodbye avocado green!
