I visited Kendal today and found these. Sadly they were in Oxfam who tend to charge more than the other charity shops. However I took a fancy to them and splashed the cash. When I was in Kendal two years ago I found a couple of similar items. I have had them on my wall since. I told myself I wasn't going to start a new collection but here we go. The actual art work is approx 7" x 3". I'm not sure if they are antique or not but the edge of the paintings looks quite old.

wondering if these were from a book or something as they look connected in a story

nicer than most as i see as well

can't work out why the men are painted so pretty and the ladies are, well.....

From what I've seen they all seem to tell a story but I see what you mean. They are definitely a pair at least. Same format and layout. Be nice if I could read the script. Google translate threatens to then does nothing. I can't comment on quality as I rarely come across them in the flesh. I've only ever seen four and bought them all. I have seen some absolute blinders on eBay but that's my personal taste I guess.

The previous ones I found were paper and I assumed these were the same. I'll have a closer look when I get back to the guest flat.

Paper methinks. Oh and they are miniatures, so they are small. Sorry dont mean to sound facetious :bucktooth:

yeah i mean yours being smaller as a good thing, as the big 70s 80s ones are not as nice in my opinion, they are always quite well done though. i haven't seen terrible examples if you now what i mean

One also looks like like the text has been washed out and then rewritten. Really bizarre.

I bet they're book pages; they often were. Someone took the book apart and framed it, and the words are bleed-through.

Yeah makes sense. Never realised they were books. Finding a whole book would be amazing.

I found one once that was in a bad/damaged frame, so I have an advantage. I took it out and saw the back.

I took the first two I found out of their frames. One was on parchment. The other was some sort of packaging card which is apparently normal.

My guess is the demand was larger than the supply, and they still knew how to make them so.. they made more.

I’d have bought them if the price was right. Nice presentations! A pair is great. Quality is better than most things but only average at best in relation to other mugal/Indian miniatures. At least in my miniature amount of experience with said miniatures.

I can't seem to find one online. If I Google 'Mugal painting books' I get a load of results for books about Mugal paintings. Nothing else. Id expect some variety of interpretation but noooó. Google knows what's best for you :hilarious:

I can’t promise results but “album” might be a helpful term. If I were smart I’d search first and make sure before offering the suggestion.
