Featured Pair Plain Rolled-Edge Cylindrical Napkin Rings: Maker's Mark & Hallmarks Please?

    They may be plated...but I hope not. They're each marked (no pic) opposite the shown marks with a numeral: a 1, an' a 2. Gotta count the silver, I guess...or maybe they belonged to Lawrence Welk! (sorry).
    1 7/8" OD, ~1 1/4" high; the pair are ~2 1/2 oz troy. Thanks for lookin'!

    They'd have been part of a set of at least six, each with its own number.

    True or not, there is a persistent story about a former Duke of Devonshire who, seeing some silver napkin rings in Asprey’s, asked his companion what they were for.

    ‘Your grace, in some households they roll napkins inside these rings so that they can be used for a subsequent meal, rather than being laundered every time.’

    ‘Good heavens. I never knew such poverty existed in England.’

    I grew up with cloth napkins and napkin rings. Living overseas we had no napkins. I still use cloth napkins but not the rings just different colors.
