Pastel Painting 1934, Copy of what painting?

    I am pretty sure it is a students work but I really like it and if it doesn't sell i really won't mind.
    I assume the word copy means she copied another work?
    Painting is 11" x 18" in a period frame. Unfortunately the glass has been rubbing against the work for so long it is badly smudged on the inside.

    It does appear to be the work of a student. (And how helpful of her to label it "copy.") I thought perhaps a Winslow Homer but can't find any of his work to be a match.
