We believe this ashtray is from a casino in the South of France circa 1880s... Any info on this piece would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Approximately 5 1/2” tall and the ashtray is about 4” diameter.

Why a casino? Why France? Why 1880s?

Casino cuz there are cards. And we found the terms bundled together while researching. And otherwise, we had no better ideas?

Well, then... Let's start with no assumptions and see what members have to say.

You may get no further than antique pedestal ashtray with playing card motif.

Perhaps you could share some of the research that supports your belief...

Ummm, so you repeat your first post and then promote an online poker site - seems a bit spammish (will pass along to admin)...

Back to the OP ID, I suspect this is early 20thC. Glass ashtrays weren't at all prolific in the 19thC, if you can find any/many at all with cigar/cigarette supports. Some of the earliest ash trays with this kind of gambling motif and cigar supports were aroud the Depression Era. This quote from an ash tray collectors site. https://www.facebook.com/AshtrayCol...ans-in-the-1950s-smoked-over/584087581709462/
"During the Great Depression years in the United States when people could not afford to
entertain outside the house, the game of bridge became very popular. Soon special ashtrays were designed for this and other card games. Promoters also used ashtrays with advertising on them as free premiums".
The ash tray is quite probably French as stated, as these 1920s French playing cards bear the almost identical motif on the "clubs" cards.
