    Hi all,

I picked up the below pendant some time ago. It was a real mishmash of metals. A pendant with a central emerald and diamonds, hung from a chain comprising two parts; the lower half a 9ct white gold floral filigree element and the top half a white metal chain (not gold or silver). I removed the pendant as it was time for that dysfunctional marriage to end!

I had the pendant looked at by a reputable jeweller for an insurance certificate. They appraised its REPLACEMENT value at £4,000 ($5,250)and noted that the metal is platinum. A friend visited who is a very experienced jeweller (contemporary jewellery and not vintage or antique). He tested the metal in his XRF machine and it came back as 7ct gold and not platinum. In fact, no platinum at all. And the original jeweller I used suggested they replace the bale, which they did with 18ct gold (if the poor pendant wasn't already confused!).

The above is not intended as a complaint or rant, just sharing the life of the piece under my ownership. I'm philosophical about these things and, above all, still like the pendant allot!

Any insights or suggestions about the pendant as a piece of jewellery is much appreciation.

    With warmest regards,
    Adam.

I bet it was made in India, fairly recently. The center stone is, anyway. The mishmash...who knows.
