Can anybody give me some info on the type of rug this is. It is I believe made of silk as the it does not have a chemical smell when I burn it and also no ash. It is heavy for its size which is 35-1/2" x 24". Any help in being pointed in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, thanks. silka.jpg silkb.jpg

The pile and relatively simple pattern make it look like a Gabbeh. I've got a couple of new ones; they're very nice.

It is Gabbeh (Qashqai people) style, but the white fringe usually indicates 'Indo-Gabbeh', mass produced Gabbeh style made in India. I would expect the pile on a real Gabbeh to be more dense, Gabbeh is known for it's extreme density.

Cool, good to know. My examples are rectangular with white fringes on the short ends, so that makes them "Indo-Gabbehs?" i.e., mass produced? I know they are new (well, 10 years old now). They are hand-made and super heavy with simple, child-like patterns. Not too expensive. Great underfoot in the bathroom.

The pile is real dense, albeit short.
