Welcome @amandac , seeing the full item can often help with identification.

Also, if I post this, someone is sure to identify with just the marks. ;)

I've had a quick look in a couple of pewter marks books without finding this exact one yet. The crown hammer marks look to be mostly French that I've seen.

Pewter can pick up the look of age and in addition there are many spurious pewter marks in the world. Hopefully this one will be more straightforward. I'll look a bit more when I get a chance.

Ah thank you Perhaps it’s not that old? I paid just €5 for this one with another which has different, more vague marks. I wanted them for Christmas displays so at the time wasn’t focused on any actual value but when I returned from France thought perhaps they needed investigating!

Could it be a ship caulking hammer?

JMHO. elements of the old marks, not unusual that the master marks are double and/or small and tall.
BUT besides this there should be an official control mark.
the rim looks machine-folded or lathe-turned, the color is not consistent with would-be age.
re brocante/ brocantistes: they are for 99 % "magouilleurs" - cheaters of the highest order, uneducated and claiming the internet for their losses, with complete fantasy prices.

Thank you so very much for the info; as I paid just €2.50 for the plate I’m not too concerned that it may have been a ‘fake’ The seller wasn’t out to rip me off. The two plates I have are very nice and will serve the purpose that I bought them for. It’s interesting to have some experts casting their eyes over it however perhaps I should conclude that they are repros?! I shall not be taking them to the antiques roadshow any time soon!! All best A
