    billyd3us Thanks All my Friends

I was wondering if the date is actually 1830 or a reproduction. I have never seen a Mother Mary figure with this type of halo or whatever you call it, also the back piece seems to have been added at a later time, not 100% sure though.
Any ideas on this piece ?

    Thank You

Post-World War II, Billy. 1960s, 1970s. Somewhere in there. IMO.

@billyd3us You find many interesting pieces to look at it and I enjoy them quite a bit... but but but... your photos can be quite confusing.

It's a rare thing, but I believe they are too "closeup." Need to pull back a bit and give us a glimpse of the entire object -- like you did with the first pic here. Would have been good to have one of the back and side just like that (it took several viewings for me to realize that the 4th pic was a side view of Mary and not some mount device on the back).

I do not know that your Mary had a specific purpose other than personal devotion.

Also, her particular nimbus/halo is a cruciform nimbus/halo.

Could have been for a car dashboard, Billy. Magnatized?

It's not so usually given to Mary, but does solve the technical problem a halo would pose: how to attach it. This one is outside convention in showing Mary with her hair down & head uncovered, something you see in artistic representations of the Immaculate Conception, but not much else.

I think this tends to happen when the people designing/producing statues are more interested in sales than iconography. :cat:

You can follow the devolution of cameos as the Victorian era was winding down. Cutters became distanced from the original art & the tales behind the images, & the use of conventional components became mix 'n' match.

I agree about the photos. Also, put something like a plain white sheet behind items because backgrounds can be very distracting.

I bought an identical figure in Rome, back in about 1972. They're quite typical there, nimbus halo and all.

Think that date is right. Late 1960s-early 1970s.
