Photo experts! Help me with this photo......

    So, I'm not a huge expert on old photos. We know a little, and know the difference
    between Tin types, Ambrotypes, daguerreotype, etc. But.....I'm not sure what the term is for this type of photo. We were thinking a gem, but I think gems were smaller, and not mounted. What is the term for this type of photo, mounted on a card? Based on the motif around the edge, it looks like it's from the Civil War era. The photo itself measures 2 in tall and 1 1/2 in wide. The card measures almost 4 in tall and 2 1/2 in wide.

    Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    This appears to be a tintype. Is the photo printed on metal? It is too large to be a gem tintype.

    This was one typical way to display tintypes in the 19th century. I have some mounted like this.

    I don't know of a special term for a tintype mounted in this way. Maybe somebody else here does?

    Maybe there isn't one? Maybe it's just a mounted tin type. LOL But, thought I'd ask!
