It used to be and maybe still is, a thing to cut the photos/pictures from books and sell them.

I have a Harrison Fisher print Copyright 1909 by Bobbs-Merrill Company.
I'm fairly positive this was cut from one of his books. Size 8 1/2 x 11.

How do you value something like this, since it isn't an original or is it?

as nice as it is, I'd have to say decorative..... since it's no longer in it's original medium..... the value would reflect that.

Print dealers will cannibalize old books for the illustrations & sell them matted.

Roy Henry Vickers used to put a statement with his calendars, demanding dealers not cut them up and frame the prints...
    just sayin..

So how do you describe the print?
    Is it just a print?

Never mind just read the description that INH posted.
They are calling it a lithograph print.

    Thanks all.

I despise the practice of gutting books of their illustrations. It is sad that the practice is profitable enough that it is so widespread. At an antique mall recently saw the remains of a really nice atlas that had been cut up and is now being offered by the page.

    I do to.
I did not do this. I bought a box lot of movie stills and prints. This was in it.

I was selling at a show about 6 years ago, the dealer across from me had prints. Things very very slow so she passed the time by taking illustrations out of books to matt for sale later. Every time she came to an illustration she cracked the spine and pulled the page out. It was like nails on a chalk board listening to the repeated crack of the spine :wideyed:

I dunno. I'd be rather pleased that someone thought enough of my work to remove a copy from a book and frame it.
