Platter Made in Turkey

Large plate or platter. Bought when my parents lived in Turkey, circa 1954.

-Estimate on value, realize that value is all relative. Searching "Turkey", "Turkish" and the like keep returning turkey platters for Thanksgiving on eB and search engines.

-Does the writing say, "Allah"? I believe this pic needs to be rotated to the left for the letters to be oriented correctly?

Thanks in advance. DSC03550 TURKISH PLATTER TURKEY 1000.jpg WhatsApp Image 2022-10-27 at 4.27.31 PM TURKISH TURKEY PLATTER BACK.jpeg

my guess is that if you search for "turkish charger" you will have better results....

    The centre is a tughra.

I really like this kind of item, but have given up on dealing in them as unfortunately the value (at least in the UK) is minimal. The last piece similar to this I had ended up in a general auction as part of a group lot fetching a nominal amount. Just keep it for now and maybe things will change in future.

You might want to use the word "calligraphy" instead of "writing."

If you rotate the picture the way you thought, you can see 'Allah' twice, once on the lower right and once on the bottom, the lines that include a W like shape.
It isn't a Tughra, which is a personal seal, but imo it is a religious text or phrase condensed into artistically composed calligraphy. Maybe part of the 'Ayat al Kursi' or Throne Verse?
Calligraphy is considered an important Islamic art form.

    Because Islamic art is aniconic.

There is certainly a focus on ornamentation, often for religious reasons.
But not all Islamic art is aniconic. Persian and Turkish miniatures for instance, even the ones depicting the life of Muhammad.

Thank you @anyjewelry for correcting my overly broad statement. I should have written (generally) aniconic.

Thank you everyone! Still have not found one exactly like this and hard to compare price-wise. Guessing $5-30 roughly. See many new ones and cannot tell if they are handmade/decorated, as this one is.
