Please assist in identifying Antique Chinese? knife in sheath.

I recently bought this knife in a grab bag at a thrift here in South Africa.

Could anybody please assist with identifying the type of knife as well as approximate age?

I realize there is a lot of damage but would like to know if it worth having a restorer look at it.

I tweaked you last photo a bit, it was difficult to see detail.
I now see a dragon and a Chinese/Japanese character, so I'd say it is Chinese or Japanese.

 

Looks like it's made to look old rather than actually being old.
