I am trying to sell them but struggle to identify them and determine the value. I know some were native American tribes. Thank you for looking

@komokwa @Taupou Give them time to respond. Our members are in many different time zones. In my entirely inexpert opinion, really lovely basket & surely NA.

Based on the materials used - wood splints and sweetgrass - I would say your basket is Native American, from the northeast or midwest. I have not seen this particular style before, however. The large loops of braided sweetgrass are unusual. But @komokwa may be more familiar with this type and may be able to provide a more specific opinion.

Wabanaki basket , most likely Mi'kmaq or Penobscot ..
    Ash & sweetgrass...

The ring handle ( never pull on the handle ! ) ...sometimes referred to as a Sacred Hoop , and more sweetgrass than u can shake a stick at....is very lovely.
    Early 20th century....

Thank you for the response. It is 5 inches tall and 8 inches across. One of the woven rings on the side is torn but it is otherwise in good condition

well, the way I see it...... if you're talking $100 US ....... I would do a search of Ebay sold baskets.....then find others.....maybe auction houses , or for sure web sites, .....of a similar style.

Then, depending on where u are wanting to sell this..... I'd start at $ 295....and be prepared to come down..... somewhat !

but for a C note.....I being a basket lover....would put it in your palm.....and walk away quickly with my new little prize !!!

but hey....that's just my take on things !

Ooh I’m a bit proud. Maine (Penobscot) was the very first thing that popped into my head when I saw the first photo. The loop confused me a bit but was on the right initial thought. For me and NA baskets that’s unusual. I guess the northeast baskets are pretty distinct though so I shouldn’t get too excited.
