    IMG_0513.JPG IMG_0514.JPG IMG_0515.JPG IMG_0516.JPG Hi,
The necklace was an estate find. I have no idea what the age or who made it. The makers mark is stamped ER on the necklace and it has enamel details I believe? Its stamped 14k gold on the clasp. I placed a penny next to it so you can see how large it is. I was wondering if the purple stone are Amethyst? Is it Victorian? Any help identifying this would be wonderful thank you.

You can edit your post to use full size instead of thumbnail images, it makes comparisons a lot easier.

I suspect it is Victorian style rather than a 19th C. piece, but there are far better jewellery experts here.

That's a lot of detailed hand work for such a small critter.
Amethyst is a good bet....& they look like quality stones ...well cut !!
    The red...garnets or rubies....I can't tell from here !

Wow that's good to hear! It weighs 40 grams and is so detailed. Would anyone have a guestemate on value of this item? Thank you

I have a feeling it's a marriage. The pendant could be Italian, or Austro-Hungarian. The enamel and purple/blue combination is something I associate with the Austrians.

When you say marriage does that mean they were possibly put together not originally made that way? Thanks

I have a few more photos in better light showing it has a hinged part that swings at the bottom and the makers mark ER. image.jpeg image.jpeg

    Photos are funny eh !
You original pics are OK...but in your hand this puppy looks positively REGAL !
That's not your average jeweler who put this together....
The only thing that ER brings to mind is Elizabeth Regina.
Now I'm not saying it's royal......but it certainly looks high end to me.

You need a professional jeweler to look at it ...and pay for an appraisal.

This is so exciting! I appreciate your honest opinion and your advise about an appraisal. What type of jeweler should look at it a fine jeweler or an antique jeweler?

Id go for a jeweler that specializes in antiques . It really is a stunning piece . I dont think the chain is original though . That doesnt really matter , that pendant is the star of the show .

Doesn't hurt to have two opinions.
But if one wants to test the gold, take it and run.

    Lovely piece

Is this the same ER mark?

Yes it has 2 one there and the one on the top. 2 on the pendant itself.

Marriage is a term used for when two pieces that didn't start life together are paired up and stay that way. Your chain is a different color from the pendant, and it may not be from the same country never mind the same goldsmith. It's a renaissance revival style pendant, and whoever did it really put the work in.

Ok thanks for explaining that. I have a lot to learn lol but I do love antique and vintage jewelry. This just stood out as special when I saw it. Is it possible that it could be a 18k gold or higher because of the color difference. Hope I'm not asking too many questions.
