Featured Please help me learn more about this Japanese Jizo statue

Hello! I inherited a wonderful Jizo statue from my step mother. I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about it?

Hes lovely. So tactile . You just want to run your hands over him. Looks like granite.

I'd actually given this some thought! I tried googling to see if there were a agency or museum in Japan who I could discuss the possibility of returning the statue to Japan. I haven't come up with anything yet, but if anyone has information about this type of thing, I'm all ears.

 

One resource could be a Japanese Embassy.

I reached out to the agency for cultural affairs. (https://www.mext.go.jp/index.htm) I'll see what they recommend. I'll keep everyone posted!

 

I highly doubt this is a pilfered Guardian!
These have been made for an extremely long time. Given freely from the Japanese artist/sculpture. Probably given to ensure safe travel.
