Alright so I was at a garage sale and I bought three folders. One folder had envelopes, the other had old 1800s pictures with people's names on it, the other was some misc. sheet music. As I had them in my car for a few hours I got a sore throat. Turns out the envelopes in the folder had mildew/mold on them. Big dilemma because I don't want to throw everything away as the pictures are very cool. I can't help but think the pictures might have mold as well just being near the other folder.... As for the envelopes I wanted to keep the two pictured and then cut the stamps off the rest but that may not be a good idea as the stamps probably have mold as well. What would you guys do??? I know sun kills mold but how well? Ughh

I've never tried this, but maybe mircowave each piece for 10-15 seconds. You could experiment on the pieces you don't care about too much to see what happens.

Freeze. Put them into a manila folder and keep them in the freezer for a day or two. That's what's done with books.

    Ozone.
It's not so much the sun but natural ozone in the air.
There's been much discussion on this here recently of which I've provided much info.
Maybe someone can attach those threads here. :)

Note that the stains will not come out by this method. Ozone will only kill the spores.
Perhaps the sun will reduce them somewhat.
I wonder if a bleach pen will but that will stand out from the rest of the surfaces as will any other direct effort leaving the treated areas looking brighter and losing their age.

I'm a convert to ozone, as long as it is used safely.

I like the principle of a machine that kills off mold and bacteria and gets rid of associated smells.

Yes, and I, and others, explain those things in those threads.
It is DANGEROUS, but easily utilized with much understanding and care.

Meant to say that it's quite interesting that this bothered your throat Spart.
I've dealt with mold professionally and with much training.
The vast majority of the time when I tell people mold can kill them they think I'm nuts.
    It can. Especially children.
It could, at least, do permanent damage. :(

Yea, I don't have an ozone machine and these aren't worth much.... The stamps have trace amounts of mold as well. I think I may just throw them away.
