I received this object in irma with 10 years inheritance from a grandfather. It was in a box of jewelry and coins

It is a cameo portrait. It is ivory. Looks like it may formerly have had a pin assembly attached vertically directly into the ivory.

    Welcome Daniel -
Hat, shirt and hair style indicate an early period. I'm thinking late 1700s, but this isn't my area.
Is it @Debora who is into clothing styles?

That makes huge sense. Dieppe was a major ivory carving center. When it comes to cameos in ivory, I see more that come from France than from any other place.

Dating a bit tricky with this one as he appears to be wearing working man's clothing, not fashionable dress. If I had to make an educated guess, I'd say roughly the time of Copley's portrait of Paul Revere which was 1768.

I was thinking the same thing, but wasn't positive, so didn't say.

Is this a statement or a question? It is now illegal to sell ivory in many places. I do not know the law where you live. I would say it has much more value as a family heirloom than it can have to a stranger. Unless they are exquisitely done - & this is not - and/or signed, portraits of the men in other people's families are of little interest to most people.
