Featured Please help with marks and sterling ID Thank you

Hello. This vase is so dirty, but I do not know how to properly polish it without possibly harming it. I am not sure if it is solid sterling as it is not marked sterling, but I have read that some older pieces sometimes are not marked with the word sterling. It does have some marks, hopefully that will help identify it for me. I have done a little research, but I do not have the confidence to ely on my findings. Thank you for any help.

 

Gorham was the maker. Item #6680

 

Gorham did not mark silver plated items with this set of marks. My bet is sterling, but do have it tested for your peace of mind.

No real reason to have it tested and taking a chance on someone else taking a file to it and dropping acid on it again - as Bakersgma already said, it's a Gorham silver mark, would not have been used on silverplate. Nice old mark, circa 1860s, prior to 1868 - most likely coin silver rather than sterling...

And as 'i need help' suggested, the production code looks to have a double-struck '6', the number would typically be three digits, so '680' would be correct.
